Prebiotic supplementation is an extensively used strategy for treating several disorders. It plays key roles in promoting gut microbiotabalance. Besides nutritional value, mushrooms are a rich source of bioactive compounds (e.g., α-/β-glucans) with prebiotic potential. While most research studies focus on testing extracts, a positive synergistic effect among mushroom biomass (MB) macromolecules has been proposed. This study aimed to assess the biochemical composition and the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) impact on MBs (Trametes versicolor-TV, Hericium erinaceus-HE, and Pleurotus ostreatus-PO) for the first time, coupled with human fecal fermentation study, to understand their gut microbiota modulation potential.

The Tramates versicolor, Hericium erinaceus and the Pleurotus ostreatus used in this presentation was supplied by Mycology Research Laboratories Ltd.
